  • Belen Alexander Airport

    Belen Alexander Airport

The Belen Alexander Airport’s newly opened crosswind runway is providing new opportunities for the Hub City. Located 1.8 miles west of Highway I-25 from the Belen Exit 191 (Camino del Llano Drive), the mile-long runway and other improvements allows for new activities, such as:

    • Charter aircraft services
    • Moderate cargo planes - the airport can accommodate aircraft weighing up to 160,000 lbs.
    • Aviation related businesses - research, manufacturing, flight testing
    • Self-serve fueling

The City owns all airport lands as well as immediately adjacent land. The City is partnering with private developers to construct new hangers available for rent/purchase. The City remains open to new partnerships for other endeavors, such as build to suit manufacturing, research facilities, etc.

In 2017 the City added a credit card activated self-help fueling station, increasing the airport’s ability to serve aircraft at all hours. At present, the City of Belen has a Joint Use Agreement with the U.S. Air Force to utilize the airport for C-130 flight training operations, especially night maneuvers.

In the fall of 2018, the airport will be renamed and reclassified by the FAA as the Belen Regional Airport, a reclassification that was enabled with the addition of the crosswind runway.
